Details : Cocktail Mix Vol. 3: Swingin' Singles\n1996 Rhino Records, Inc.\n\nOriginally Released January 23, 1996\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: A look at the roster of cuts assembled for this 18-cut compilation may have you anticipating a staid set of pre-rock pop, with the likes of Rosemary Clooney, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, and Peggy Lee. Actually, this is lounge music at its most hepped-up, even getting a bit raucous in spots, and often deploying Latin rhythms to raise the energy level. As for the Rat Packers and Vegas habitues, this is about as hard as they ever swang; from the other direction, we get some of the more dance-conscious sides from performers with higher critical credentials, like Della Reese, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Stan Kenton. Robert Mitchum (singing calypso), Henry Mancini (with one of his best instrumentals, "Something for Cat"), and Latin bandleader Xavier Cugat add variety and novelty to a set that may appeal even to those who disdain adult pop, lounge or otherwise. -- Richie Unterberger\n\nAmazon.com Editorial Review\nThis 18-cut compilation reaches its peak with Sarah Vaughan's rendition of "One Mint Julep," which retains the arrangement Quincy Jones wrote for Ray Charles's version. Horns blaring, rhythm pumping, Vaughan goes completely over the top in her recounting of a night of passion that led to a lot more than she bargained for--a baby and a shotgun wedding, to be exact. Good to hear that she still managed to get out once in a while. And in fine style. --Rickey Wright \n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nSwingin' Singles, February 20, 2005 \nBy Johnny Heering "trivia buff" (Bethel, CT United States)\nThis is a fine compilation of "adult pop" from 1949 to 1964. What unifies the music on this compilation is that either the arrangements, lyrics, or the delivery of the singer are more playful and vibrant than other treatments of the same songs performed by other artists. This is truly fun, swinging music. If you enjoy adult pop of the '50s and '60s, you will definitely dig this CD. \n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nGreat Collection!, November 28, 2005 \nBy askmrright "Mr. Right" (www.askmrright.com)\nThis cd has been one of my favorites since the day I bought it nearly 10 years ago. The standards are classic, but some of the artists' interpretations of those standards are rare finds indeed. This cd is worth the price for Della Reese's "The Lady is a Tramp" alone. Although this is called volume 3, it should be number one as it is certaily the best of the series. \n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nClassic cocktail, swing, and camp all in one., May 20, 1999 \nReviewer: A music fan\nGreat tunes from the '50s and '60s sung by all the heavy hitters, Ella Fitzgerald to Dean Martin. And where else can find Robert Mitchum singing Calypso? \n\n\nHalf.com Details \nN/A\n\nIndustry Reviews\n...Rhino has found the jazziest arrangements of the coolest sounds from the late 50s and compiled the three star elevator tunes into perfect dinner party soundtracks...\nDirty Linen (04/01/1996)\n\n...sudsy, urbane kitsch aplenty....this music sounds positively vibrant and ear-tweaking...\nMusician (05/01/1996)
