Details : Recorded live at Sankei Hall, Tokyo, Japan, May 21, 1963\n\n\n\nThis two-LP set of material (all but "Evidence" was only previously out in Japan)features the Thelonious Monk Quartet (with tenor-saxophonist Charlie Rouse, bassist Butch Warren and drummer Frankie Dunlop) romping through Monk's usual repertoire (eight familiar originals, a brief piano solo on "Justa Gigolo" and the standard "I'm Gettin' Sentimental over You"). The solosare fresh and, even if no real surprises occur, the enthusiasm and joy of this music makes it recommended even to Monk collectors who already have most of his recordings.
